I’m Trina Burfield, a writer, photographer, and cultural guide based in Europe, designing sustainable and immersive travel experiences that connect history, culture, and the natural landscape.

Baguettes & Backroads was founded as a way to design travel that feels human, intentional, and rooted in respect.

My Mission

At Baguettes & Backroads, I guide curious and conscious travelers into the heart of Europe, with particular attention to France, border regions, and places shaped by layered history and landscape. Slow journeys, cultural richness, and meaningful connections are central to every experience, creating travel that is more responsible and enduring.

My Story

​I didn’t set out to build a travel company. I set out to understand the world and my place within it. From quiet mornings in Alsatian villages to long hikes in the Vosges, travel became my way of listening, learning, and connecting.

Over the past decade, I’ve led immersive experiences across France, Switzerland, and the UK. These have included study abroad programs and curated journeys for small groups. Each experience deepened a belief I now carry into every itinerary: travel should feel human, intentional, and rooted in respect.

Baguettes & Backroads grew from that belief. It’s for those who want more than just checklists — travelers who seek meaning, culture, and a sense of belonging wherever they go.

In Strasbourg, at the European Parliament — a place that reflects Europe’s layered histories and shared future.

How I Work

I design small-group and private experiences rooted in story, craft, and place. I create bespoke itineraries, educational travel journeys, and themed cultural trips. My practice prioritizes sustainable travel by supporting local makers, low-impact stays, and meaningful connections.
